Read The Interview With One of Freepik’s Newest Contributors
Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hello! My name is Horacio and I’m from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I am a graphic designer and illustrator. I’ve been working at an advertising agency until a year ago when I started freelancing full time which is the best choice I made. I love the freedom that being a freelancer and a Freepik contributor gives me. When I’m not designing I’m playing video games or running which helps me to get away from the computer for a while.
What made you originally want to become a designer?
I have always like drawing. Since I can remember myself that was always my favourite thing to do, so I think the choice was pretty natural for me. When I finished high school I went to a business school. But, not so long after that, I realised that it was not the right move for me and I went to a design school to pursue my one true passion- design. As soon as graduated, I got a job at an advertising agency while also doing some freelance work.
How would you describe your style? Where do you find inspiration and ideas for new designs?
My style is heavily inspired by manga/anime. I feel really comfortable working with thick lines but I can also adapt to flat design. My main source of inspiration is Pinterest, Instagram and of course Freepik.
What pieces of work are you most proud of and why?
Right now I’m proud of this esport red dragon logo I think it represents my illustration style very well. I started making esport logos for a client and couldn’t stop then I started making my own sports logos for microstock. I really enjoy the whole process of making them.
Has your work evolved since your first started designing photos and how?
Of course, design style always evolves since we are always changing and the things that inspire us always change. I look now at my old illustrations and feel a little more complex than the simpler and cleaner style I use now.
What tips would you give to budding designers?
Always have a couple of designers you admire to look up to when in need of inspiration and motivation.
What made you want to become a contributor to Freepik? What are the benefits of uploading your work?
My ex-boss at the agency told me about Freepik so I decided to apply and got accepted as a contributor. Freepik has lots of traffic and is a very nice way to expose your work. Also, it helped me a lot to motivate me for creating new content. I enjoy the challenge of guessing which content will be more successful.
What advice do you have for designers who want to become on contributors on Freepik?
First, take a look at your style and make a consistent portfolio that represents you and the potential work you can provide to Freepik. Then go ahead and apply, if you don’t make it the first time keep creating, you can only get better and better.
Why would you recommend using Freepik and how has it benefited your work?
Freepik is a very well known source of free and premium vectors. It helped me a lot to inspire me and helped me clean my vector style looking at other designers files.
