Freepik Contributor Aryo from Yogyakarta, Indonesia has always been passionate about graphic designing having loved drawing as a child. He explains the advantages of working for Freepik and how it can really boost your income. As well he gives some great advice for those thinking of getting into graphic design.
Tell us a little bit about yourself. Where do you live? What do you do in your spare time?
Hi, my name is Aryo, I live in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. I spend my free time mostly with my family, using social media and watching movies.

When did you first start designing? Were you always passionate about designing?
I started designing in 2001. I have always been passionate about designing because as a kid I loved drawing.
How did you become interested in design? When did you start working in the industry?
The first project was to create a jacket design for my college. Since I had zero knowledge about software design, I used microsoft paint to start with. And then was in love with graphic design ever since. The first time I got paid for my design was in 2005, and then I started working as an employee / graphic designer in 2007.

Where did you find the inspiration for your Freepik designs?
The Internet was an obvious source.
Tell us about your portfolio: How many vectors have you designed throughout your career? What style are you most comfortable working in? Where do you find the inspiration for your work?
Ah, I’m not sure how I can count them. I’ve been in this industry for more than 10 years so it will be a lot of vectors. I love designing cartoon characters or mascots. Drawing cartoons has always been my favorite because I love comics.
What advice or tips would you give anyone starting out as a graphic designer?
Of course, as we all know – practice makes perfect. Besides that, join design communities, absorb as much acknowledge you can. And don’t be afraid to ask, communities are full of many kind people who are ready to help whenever you need.
What made you decide to work with microstock platforms?
Definitely the passive income. I don’t have to struggle with revisions, deadlines and angry clients, etc. As well when I’m retired from graphic design someday I can still make a living for me and my family. And also the posibility that I can leave my account to my child and grandchild
And what advice would you give people who are thinking about getting involved with microstock platforms?
Stop thinking, start taking action and enjoy the process. Just don’t quit, keep it going and then at some point you will realize that you finally made a decent passive income within a month. Remember, hard work pays off.
What made you take the step to join Freepik?
The amazing growth and the high traffic. I was surprised when I got my first payout after the first month. The other microstock agency will take few months to reach that amount.

Focus on quality instead of quantity. And, keep submitting.
